So glad to have found this article, Greg. It resonates a lot. I feel that I also need to focus my attention on the right training, nutrition, and routines that will allow me to participate in races that fascinate and scare me. I just finished my first mountain biking stage race in Serbia, Wild Bear.3 Stages. It was way out of my comfort zone. I had reached my limits and had to surpass them. I finished the first stage in 7 hours.2 hours after the cut-off time. I was riding in the rain, mud, slippery rocks, roots, and walls that were called trails in a wild forest. I fell off the bike towards the end of stage one and injured my knee, but I managed to continue. Second stage, I finished an hour after the cut-off time, and 3d stage, 19 minutes after. From the moment I pressed the button to register in this race, I entered a steep learning curve. I had to learn to make it happen. I felt engaged and alive!
